Happy new year of the boar, people! According to the myth, in the race to get to the emperor’s party the pig arrived last. But nonetheless, pigs are symbol of wealth and good fortune.
It’s been a few days already, but we’re officially in the year of the pig (or boar, in some calendars) since February 5th. Each of the 12 zodiac signs is associated to one of the 5 elements, making a total of 60 possible combination, and this year’s element for the pig year is earth. Apparently, these details are very important when you go seek help from fortune tellers…
Whenever I document myself about each Chinese zodiac symbol I marvel at the intricate weaves that make the predictions for the year’s fortune…one has to look at the element, the symbol, the moon phase, the yin/yang, the previous year, the symbolism behind the former and the current year’s animal signs and how they interact….all in order to make the accounts check out. Amazing, really.
Anyway, it seems that the transition to the year of the pig might bring sudden misfortune to big companies, especially those that did well in the previous year. Also, because of the turmoil in the transition people will likely fight for money, soil, water and primary resources (comes out of nowhere, really….). However, staying unbiased, all these information I read were form a site that clearly disliked America and its current leader, so all the predictions were not so well concealed hints at China-US never ending frictions. Another site, instead, claims the year of the pig will be of fortune and joy. What to believe? Well, nothing of that, if you ask me. Actually, I am sure that if I go back and read the predictions for all the previous years, I will find reshuffled versions of the same one.
But if you really, deep down, want to know what happens to you this year, here is a very brief horoscope for you: pig, rat, ox and rabbit will have a positive year overall; tigers should learn to think through instead of acting independently and dragon should act calmly and perhaps reconsider the past; sheep and monkey will have better chances this year than the previous; snake and dog should count on themselves and be persuasive; chicken should pay attention to quality of relationships with others.
Last year, the year of the dog, I was pondering upon the fact that I had been in Japan almost a full Chinese zodiac cycle. Well, this year indeed I am closing that cycle.
Except for the first year, I have not missed the appointment with the Chinese horoscope. It’s not the belief, as I am light years away from believing in that fluff, but here in Japan people celebrate the lunar new year together with the gregorian new year. Near where I live there is a small temple, and at the end of every year a board with a drawing of the Chinese zodiac animal for the upcoming year is put in front of its entrance. I guess seeing it on my way home, made me curious and later I liked the idea of having a regular appointment with the esoteric.
Now that I have closed the 12-year circle, I can put this topic to rest.

Buon anno del maiale a tutti! In base alla leggenda, nella gara per raggiungere la festa dell’imperatore, il maiale e’ arrivato l’ultimo. Nonostante ciò, il maiale e’ simbolo di ricchezza e fortuna.
Gia da qualche giorno siamo entrati ufficialmente nell’anno del maiale (o a dir il vero cinghiale) il 5 febbraio. Ognuno dei 12 segni e’ associato a uno dei cinque elementi, per un totale di 60 possibili combinazioni, e quest’anno l’elemento del maiale e’ terra. A quanto pare questi sono dettagli importanti se uno vuole rivolgersi ai cartomanti…
Ogni volta che leggo riguardo al simbolo dell’anno non posso far a meno di meravigliarmi a quanto intricate siano le previsioni per l’oroscopo dell’anno….uno deve guardare al simbolo, l’elemento, le fasi della luna, se yin o yang, l’anno precedente, il simbolismo degli anni precedente e corrente e l’interazione tra i due simboli…tutto al fine di far quadrare le previsioni. Davvero incredibile.
Comunque, pare che la transizione nell’anno del maiale possa avere ripercussioni negative per le grosse compagnie, specialmente quelle che hanno fatto bene nell’anno precedente. E ancora, a causa di questa transizione poco tranquilla, pare che ci saranno lotte per soldi e risorse primarie (no, davvero, ma che sorpresa…). Che poi, se uno rimane obiettivo, tutte queste informazioni che ho letto provenivano da un sito che chiaramente e’ politicamente contro l’America e quindi le previsioni erano richiami non poi cosi bene celati alle frizioni tra Cina e Stati Uniti. In un altro sito invece le previsioni per l’anno del maiale sono di grande fortuna e gioia. Vai a capire….cosa credere? Beh, secondo me a niente. Anzi, sono pure sicura che se rileggo le previsioni degli anni passati trovo versioni rimescolate della stessa previsione.
Comunque, se proprio proprio lo volete conoscere qual’e’ l’oroscopo per quest’anno eccolo qui: maiale topo, mucca e coniglio avranno tutto sommato un anno positivo; il segno della tigre dovrebbe imparare a riflettere invece di agire indipendentemente e il drago dovrebbe agire con calma e con considerazione del passato; pecora e scimmia avranno migliori opportunità rispetto all7anno passato; serpente e cane devono contare su se stessi e essere persuasivi; infine gallo dovrebbe prestare attenzione alla qualità delle relazioni con gli altri.
L’anno scorso, l’anno del cane, riflettevo sul fatto che ero in Giappone per quasi un intero ciclo dello zodiaco cinese. Ebbene, quest’anno sto chiudendo il cerchio.
Fatta eccezione per il primo anno, non ho mancato l’appuntamento con l’oroscopo cinese. Non e’ perché ci credo, anzi io sono proprio anni luce dal credere a queste sciocchezze, ma qui in Giappone la gente festeggia sia il capodanno cinese che quello gregoriano. Ora, vicino a dove abito c’e’ un tempio, e alla fine di ogni anno spunta davanti all’ingresso una tabella con un disegno dell’animale dello zodiaco per l’anno che arriva. Visto che la vedo ogni giorno quando vado a casa, sono diventata curiosa e poi dopo ho avuto l’idea di dedicare un appuntamento regolare con l’esoterico.
Ora che il ciclo di 12 anni e’ concluso, mi sa che anche la serie può andare in pensione.
