A post about rain and colors

It’s been raining non stop for about 26 hours, and it looks like it may continue for another 26 or even longer, but might as well stop any moment. The monsoon season has come for its yearly visit to Japan and we are all getting miserable, already. I reckon all this water is going to sit around until the dreaded sweltering hot days will come, and then everything will smell of putrid and decay. What a great time to be in Japan!

It’s been very cold until now, actually, except for a weekend of alarmingly high temperatures. Just one isolate episode. Now with the incessant rain, and the wind, it feels we jumped straight into fall. I don’t know, man, but a 15 degrees drop in temperatures from one day to the next makes me long for the couch, a book and a hot chocolate.

The coloring book I bought for my holidays is an even greater companion to spend the rainy evenings at home. For one thing, the colored pencils well contrast the dull grey of the world. Now, these books are supposed ho help relax us stressed adults. But here is the thing: I am not sure these books are actually helping me relax…I think they are challenging me.

Since I started coloring them I can’t but observe attentively every plant or flower I pass by, because I want to make sure I memorize every color and every shade so I will be able to reproduce them in my books. Now I get distracted a lot, no matter I am walking or riding my bike, I have to look here or there or over there because I noticed something. One day I will get hit by a car or bang my head somewhere, I am telling you.

I know I shouldn’t care about the real thing and just pick a pencil and follow my whim….but I can’t. Not yet at least. Plus, I don’t have enough tones among my pencils..but worry not, my dear self, I already eyed a wonderful box of colored pencils with all the shades I need!

The good thing about this dangerous sport though, is that I do spend time to notice the nature around me, all the thousands of color combinations and shapes of flowers and leaves. The world out there is wonderful.

Ora pero’, sti libri in teoria dovrebbero aiutare noi adulti a rilassarci.
