Year of the Monkey

We're about two weeks into the new Chinese year, and I still haven't given my usual summary on what's expected for all 12 horoscope signs…tell me about busy…

It's a Monkey year this year, a year where -according to some predictions- Chicken, my animal sign, will do great in all sectors. Yeah, riiiiiight.

Monkey people are described as being intelligent, curious, and achieving. Also, they can use their cleverness for trickery, and turn everything to their advantage. Be creative with what you have is their live-by motto. Especially for Monkeys, anything can happen this year, in both good and bad sense. Well, well, well…

Reading about Chinese horoscope, I learned that the animal sign governing the year usually is the least lucky. Don't ask me why. So, this year Monkeys will have a hard time, with highs and lows in all sectors, finance, love, health, career. Well, peeps, good news for you is that if you follow the Feng-shui directions you can turn bad luck into good luck. Yeah, riiiiiight.

Anyway, let’s have a super brief overview of what’s going to happen for all signs…Rat sign is endowed with general good fortune, and good mood; Cow, time to show what you’ve got once the opportunity comes; Tigers need to learn new skills if they want to advance; Rabbit sign has people skills on their side; Dragon is trouble-free this year; for Snake, this is also a good fortune year, so no problem at all; Oh, fame and wealth awaits the Horse sign this year; Sheep, in order to get the good fortune that’s waiting somewhere, you have to work hard for it; some persistence is needed for Monkeys, but if rules are followed, luck will be with you; Chicken, careful not to overdo…when you think everything’s going well, pitfalls may endanger your luck; efforts will pay off for Dog; Pigs, evaluate carefully the situation before a leap.

But is there something more to Monkeys we don’t know? Well, that monkeys are important in Chinese culture is obvious, as they represent one of the 12 signs…but in mythology there is a lot about monkeys too, while some folk tales describe monkeys as supernatural beings, very likely due to the resemblance to humans.

In Japan, monkeys were once believed to be mediators between humans and gods, later on they began to represent the cunning and foolish other side of human nature, then again seen as some sort of sacred or wise animal. It’s enough to remember the carvings of the three wise monkeys in one temple in Japan…

Speaking of monkeys, it occurs to me that I’ve always wanted to check out a place where monkeys are trained to be waiters…what best year than the year of the monkey for that? 

So, to go back to the horoscope, it seems each and everyone -according to predictions- will be busy trying to catch their lucky star.

Siamo gia a due settimane dall’arrivo del nuovo anno cinese e non ho ancora fatto il moi solito riassunto sulla situazione astrale…quando si dice impegnata…

Quest’anno corre l’anno della scimmia, un anno in cui, a detta di certe previsioni, i galli (il mio segno) andranno bene in tutti i settori. Certo, certo.

Le persone del segno della scimmia sono considerate intelligenti, curiose e che ottengono risultati. Ma anche che possono usare la loro intelligenza per fregare, o per rigirare tutto a proprio vantaggio. Il loro motto e’ di essere creativi con ciò che si ha, arrangiarsi, insomma. Proprio per i nati sotto il segno della scimmia, in quest’anno può succedere di tutto, nel bene e ne male. Eh, beh….

Nel documentarmi riguardo all’oroscopo cinese ho imparato che di solito per il segno dell’anno corrente non e’ un buon anno. Non mi chiedete il perché. E quindi il segno della scimmia avrà qualche difficolta quest’anno, o per lo meno alti e bassi, in tutti i settori della vita. Ma, cari miei, non disperate perché se seguirete i consigli del Feng Shui riuscirete a trasformare la cattiva in buona sorte. Certo, certo.

Comunque, vediamo velocemente cosa accadrà per i 12 animali… topo, in generale buona fortuna e buon umore; mucca, quando l’opportunità si presenta, mostra ciò che hai; tigre, meglio imparare se si vuole avanzare; coniglio, la socialità non manca; drago, non ci sono problemi quest’anno; serpente, anche per te nessun problema; cavallo, fama e ricchezza ti attendono; pecora, la fortuna ti attende, ma te la devi guadagnare; scimmia, come detto la fortuna va e viene ma seguire le raccomandazioni aiuta a tenerla vicino; gallo, attenzione a non gongolare troppo, che le insidie si nascondono dietro l’angolo; per il cane, le fatiche saranno ricompensate; e infine, maiale, valutare bene la situazione prima di ogni salto nel buio e’ d’obbligo.

Ma c’e’ qualche altro significato celato dietro al mito della scimmia? Che le scimmie sono importanti nella cultura cinese lo sappiamo bene, vista la loro rappresentanza nello zodiaco, ma anche nell mitologia ci sono parecchie referenze. Alcune storie popolari presentano la scimmia come un essere sovrannaturale, forse per via dell’ovvia somiglianza agli esseri umani.

In Giappone la scimmia era una volta vista come l’intermediario tra l’umano e il divino, poi divenuta un essere scaltro e ingannevole, poi infine di nuovo saggio e sacro. Basta nominare per esempio il fregio ornato di un tempio famoso in Giappone dove sono intarsiate le famose tre scimmie sagge…

Insomma, tornando all’oroscopo, pare che -sempre in base alle predizioni- sara’ per tutti un anno abbastanza impegnato alla ricerca della stella della fortuna.

Fate del vostro meglio e seguite sempre i suggerimenti del feng shui per starsene quanto più al lontano possible dalla sfida.
