Cara vecchia Edo - Dear old Edo : Kawagoe 川越

Kawagoe è una cittadina fuori Tokyo famosa per i templi e le case nello stile che ricorda Edo, ovvero il nome antico di Tokyo quando divenne capitale.

In occasione del giorno di festa io e degli amici si decide di andare e ci si organizza per una giornata che ha molto della gita scolastica. Appuntamento a Ikebukuro, dove i 20 della comitiva ci raduniamo, poi sul treno che in 50 minuti ci porta a destinazione.

Durante il viaggio, cosa che è insolita per i giapponesi con noi nella carrozza, facciamo casino, scherziamo, diventiamo rumorosi tanto che tutti sono contenti e sollevati quando scendiamo alla nostra stazione.

E la città si presenta davvero bene: tutti si aspettavano un villaggio fatto di 3 case e un tempio, in mezzo alla campagna, e invece con piacere ci ritroviamo di fronte una florida e grande cittadina in cui non manca nulla. Procurata la mappa per conoscere i luoghi di interesse ci muoviamo, a fatica, visto che è impossibile restare uniti in gruppo, e iniziamo l'esplorazione.

Nelle zone limitrofe alla stazione si intravedono solo pochissime case antiche, ma poi abbandonato il centro si apre davanti a noi la vista dell'antico centro cittadino, fatto di edifici in legno nero con i tetti spioventi e decorati, stradine strette e tortuose, negozi di souvenir e vivande.

I templi ci sono e sono tanti, molto belli e affascinanti. Possibile fare un tour stando comodamente seduti in una carrozzina portata a braccia da uomini minuti ma resistenti che fanno anche da guida turistica.

Kawagoe is a town north of Tokyo famous for its temples and buildings in Edo (old name for Tokyo capital) style. In occasion of a national holiday, today, a few friends and I decided to go and the trip looks like a school trip.

Meeting point Ikebukuro, where all the 20 participants get together, then on a train that takes us to the destination in 50 minutes. While traveling, unusual to all the Japanese who were in the car with us, we are noisy, chitchatting, loud, so much that when we get off at our station all the others feel relieved.

Everybody was expecting to see a village of 3 old houses and a temple, in the countryside, in fact we found ourselves in front of a very nice and huge town damn full of all stuff you find in Tokyo as well! Grabbed a map to get to know the places of interest, we move, with efforts because it's hard to get together with so many people in the group, and the n we start the exploration.

Only very few old buildings were visible in the neighborhood of the station, then, once we left the centre and move on a bit, the very old town centre reveal itself, and we can see that all the buildings are very very ancient, in black wood, the roofs are decorated and typical Japanese style, the streets are narrow and winding, souvenir and food shops.

The temples are very many and very beautiful. Tours comfortably sit in a portable chair, drag by tough men who take you around and act a s a guide is available.
