The year of the Dog

This year’s Chinese New Year nearly passed under my radar, given how taken I was by my various engagements and concerns!

Indeed, next week, February 16th, marks the beginning of the Year of the Dog, under its dominating element, the Earth. So, my numerous pet lovers, this is the year of your pooches too. Just, don’t exaggerate with celebrating your loyal 4-legged friends, don’t love them the way the Japanese do…(see HERE)

As per tradition, I shall discuss the characteristics of the year to come, and the fortune for all other zodiac signs.

Well, first things first: I will soon be close to the 12-year cycle, being the dog the one animal before the last of the zodiac, pig. I started this blog in the year of the pig, then started this esoteric series one year later, the year of the rat…I almost reached the closing of the circle. Wow. Just wow.

Now, my fervent believers in the horoscope, these are the traits of people born in the year of the dog: they are are above all loyal (hmm, d’uh), friendly and with a strong sense of justice. However they are easily angered and are irritable and critical of others. It is going to be an overall good, but exhausting year. It is supposed to bring good luck to those seeking a date for a marriage, or those seeking financial growth.

For those born in the year of rat, monkey, cow and pig the year will be positive; less positive for those born in the year of dog (obviously, as those usually have worse fortune in their years, or so they say), dragon and rabbit; great year for tiger, snake, horse and goat.

But now I am thinking….those people born in the year of the dog, who also own a dog…will they have to be even more cautious? And those whom have good luck this year, like snake, goat, horse….will their great luck be hindered by the ownership of a dog? And what about dogs born in the year of the dog? And here is an interesting riddle: the internet tells me that the current U.S. president is born under the sign of the dog…the internet again tells me he is the only president not to have a dog (during the presidency or not)…what’s his year going to be like? 

I finish with a related note, I miss having a pet more than usual, lately. This is because for the last two months I’ve been seeing a drawing of a dog standing by the temple entrance. It’s a small temple near my building, and I pass by it nearly every day. Starting December, they put up the sign for the animal of the year (yes, a bit in advance, but the Japanese love to live in anticipation), and as a dog lover I can’t but sigh at the sight of it every time. I should find some time to see my favorite human this year (you know what I mean).

Quasi quasi che quest’anno l’avvento del capodanno cinese mi sfuggiva, visto come sto presa dai miei vari impegni e preoccupazioni.

Infatti la settimana prossima, il 16 febbraio comincia l’anno del cane, dominato dall’elemento terra. E allora, miei cari e numerosi amanti degli animali, questo e’ l’anno dei vostri cari cuccioli. Ora, non esagerate con i festeggiamenti dei vostri amici a quattro zampe, per lo meno non come i giapponesi adorano i loro animali… (QUI)

Come da tradizione, mi tocca parlare dell’anno che verra’ e che cosa ci aspetta, segno per segno.

Innanzitutto una cosa: presto si avvicina la chiusura del ciclo dodecennale, essendo il cane il penultimo dello zodiaco, prima del maiale. Quando iniziavo questo blog correva infatti l’anno del maiale, e ho poi iniziato questa serie esoterica l’anno dopo, nell’anno del topo…tra non molto il cerchio si chiude. Mamma mia!

E adesso, miei ferventi amanti dell’oroscopo, ecco le caratteristiche di chi e’ nato sotto il segno del cane: innanzitutto leali (bi, davvero), amichevoli e con un forte senso di giustizia. Pero’ anche facilmente irascibili e critici. In generale sara’ un anno buono ma faticoso. Pare che e’ un anno che porta fortuna a coloro che cercano un matrimonio, o coloro che vogliono migliorare le finanze. 

Per quelli nati sotto il segno di scimmia, topo, mucca e maiale, l’hanno sara’ positivo. Un po’ meno per cane (che ovviamente, essendo il segno dell’anno, cosi si dice, non godono di una buona sorte), drago e coniglio. Sara’ un anno fantastico per i rimanenti tigre, serpente, capra e cavallo.

Ora pero’ mi viene da pensare….quelli nati nell’anno del cane e che hanno anche un cane….dovranno essere ancora più cauti? E quelli che in teoria hanno un anno fantastico ma posseggono un cane…la loro fortuna sara’ ostacolata? E come sara’ per i  cani nati nell’anno del cane? E ora un amletico dubbio: internet mi dice che il presidente attuale degli stati uniti e’ nato sotto il segno del cane…sempre internet mi dice che e’ l’unico presidente a non avere un cane (o durante o al di fuori della presidenza)…come sara’ il suo anno?

Concludo con una nota correlata, mi manca l’avere un cane, ultimamente più del solito. Sara’ perché nei due mesi passati ho visto un pannello con il disegno di un cane torreggiare proprio all’entrata di un tempio che sta sotto casa. Ci passo davanti quasi ogni giorno, ma siccome gia verso dicembre espongono il segno dell’anno (eh un po’ in anticipo, ma si sa che i giapponesi vivono d’attesa), e da buona amante dei cani non posso non pensarci ogni volta che vedo il segno. Mi sa che devo trovare del tempo per andare a vedere il mio essere umano preferito (e sappiamo bene di cosa sto parlando).
