The year of the mammoth?

And so it’s 2017. It seems like the world gets less and less safe, but we can’t but carry on and focus on the good parts.

Here in Japan we get year-end holidays. I love those days because the country slows down, people prepare to welcome the new year following their buddhist traditions: clean the houses, prepare the food for the first meal of the new year, pray at the temple, burn all lucky charms from the previous year. Many shops and companies close down, the air is clearer and the mountains start to get a thick white coat.

I took advantage of the holidays to indulge in simple things like sitting in the morning sun every day (oh, gorgeous “spring” days we’re blessed with!) to sip my coffee in peace, running outside, take long bike rides, walk aimlessly around the neighbourhood, sort things out, sleep more (and better).

This past year wasn’t among the brightest, I have to say, which made us all (or just me, maybe?) long for days like these. But the stars and planets must have aligned eventually, because winter now is as sunny as it should be. With one exception, that it is too warm with respect to the average temperatures for this season. I am not complaining, of course, but now we do need colder days and snow on the mountains.

As for an end of a year recap, I don’t have much to say. It was all work and depressing weather. I can’t say it was worse than any other year or better, I think…it was just yet another year with its share of good and bad days. Like, yeah, same old same old.

As for new year’s resolutions, well, you know I don’t have any. I mean, I don’t need to resolute on anything to feel better about myself. I just carry on trying to be/do better than yesterday.

There is one thing, though, I’d like to fix. But I came to the conclusion that I need some help from The Police, for that….can you explain mammoths they aren’t ballerinas? Say it in music, maybe?

Insomma, tutto come sempre.

Dirlo in musica?

(thank you, Google!)
