Japanese thanksgiving

There is another holiday in November that is known as Labour Thanksgiving and is held to celebrate workers.

We know that the International Workers' Day is on May 1st, and not oddly enough, it is so even in Japan.

The origins of the november Japanese holiday have to be brought back to the old ritual of celebrating the fall harvest, and giving thanks for the year's produce. On our modern days, people show appreciation for the hard work of all people, and apparently (I haven't personally seen it) kids are also encouraged to make drawings and then offer them to all officers, like policemen, firefighters, and so on, since they are the ones who keep the country safe for children to grow in.

And forget the death-on-a-plate kind of food that circulates around the more famous American thanksgiving day…stuffed turkey is more an imported tradition than a local one here…Japanese thanksgiving is not a food feast. And in any case, it will likely be chicken, not turkey.

So, OK, wait a second, then this day is my day (and May day) too! Alas, today is also the very first day of winter, which doesn't really motivate much to do stuff. Temperatures plummeted compared to only 2 days ago and it is now raining. There is no better treat than a book, a cup of hot tea, and freshly baked oatmeal cookies, at this point. It kinda feels like Christmas time now…

And that is how a three-day weekend ends. A three-day weekend spent exercising, cleaning, gifts shopping, cooking.

But next weekend…next weekend will be warm again. How? Stay tuned and you'll find out.

Come e' possibile? Lo scoprirete presto.
