Separations and reunions

We've been blessed with a dry, warm autumn. Now red leaves are starting to show on trees and begin to fall and cover the ground.

Light rain fell some days ago, cooling the air a bit, and allowing moss to grow bright green on stones and trees. I like moss.

I also like walking in the park after it has rained, I like to feel the dead leaves made soft by the humidity under my shoes, breathe the air saturated with the smell of grass, soil, resin, dew. At night all these sensory inputs are boosted, silence descends upon trees and roads, quiet is total, only interrupted by the wind blowing through the branches of trees, or by collected rain water falling off the plants. I think my favorite human (still meaning the dog) likes the situation, too. We had our souls cleansed, we went back home purified and lighter after a wet night walk. I am sure I can speak for two.

Anyway, the evening walks are helping a lot to give me that time I usually don't have to devote to myself. I am treasuring those hours spent to grow apart from everything, because outside of those time capsules, life happens and is hectic.

I feel like this October has been the busiest month, so far. I am more tired now than the month I spent cycling every day for 40 kilometers...and this time it isn't about the physical exercise.

There are two things that can compensate for the mental (and perhaps emotional too) exhaustion.

One is spending time with my above mentioned favorite human. Now it's over, unfortunately. I am back to my ordinary life. A hound-less life.

The second is welcoming a couple of true good friends from Sicily. Without belittling all other good friends I have and their visits, these two fellas mean a lot more: the only friends from high school to have traveled all the way to Japan and meet me.

We've managed to stay in touch all these years since I left home, we've managed to meet each time I returned on a brief visit, and now I meet them here in Japan. I mean, they stayed at my place!
I can't properly explain why this is important, but it is. It means a lot and it makes up for all those friends who I wish they visited but can't.

October is at its end now, it witnessed separations and reunions. Let's hope it takes some of the tiredness with it too.

**********
