LOCK-UP -- before you tie the knot

I hope my friend didn't think about the inevitable symbolism behind picking the theme restaurant LOCK-UP to have a bachelorette party…are we going to tell the bride-to-be, implicitly, that marriage will be a prison? That freedom is over? HEHEHEHEHE!

I could keep bringing up puns with this theme, like saying that it was sort of ironic see a scientist (hem, me) who works on CAGE technology-based gene expression (it's all bio-babble, fellas in my same field will get it right away) locked up in a cage for dinner…

Done with bad jokes, I can now go to the real story. So, yes, girl friends of a woman soon to marry got together in this theme restaurant to party. We organized and got all together in secret, so that the unaware guest of honor would be escorted by her fiance to an arranged place X where two of us in disguise would fetch her (who was reluctant to leave with a horse-headed and a Ghostface pair).

Now, it was my first time in LOCK-UP, and I don't really know what to make of the place. It was prison-themed, with dining rooms as cages, waiters in convicts uniforms and other staff wearing cop uniforms, but it was also horror-themed, as they tried to scare people with sudden screams, sudden visits by random (supposed) frightening characters, darkness and so on. Drinks were themed too, but they all looked like coming from a chemistry lab than from a prison: flasks, droppers, test tubes (I picked the fanciest looking set of cocktail tools). Eventually, I concluded the place looked like Frankenstein Castle where an alchemist would do all sort of experiments on some hopeless slaves locked up to rot in the basement. There.

Anyway, those cocktail drinks had zero to nil alcohol content, so that after a couple of attempts we unanimously voted to switch to beer. Not a very classy move, but we wanted alcohol and that was the best we managed.

To get the conversation going, while waiting for our guest of honor to arrive, and later to explain how we ended up at that party we compiled a nice list of our names, corresponding seat at the table, relationship with the bachelorette, and such. Very organized women, you can say that.

The best part comes right when they (the restaurant monsters) least expected: three times someone, in the darkness, attempted to break in our cage to scare us. And three times that someone had to leave visibly puzzled at seeing that there was a monster with us already -my friend wearing the Ghostface mask, counter-scaring them. MUHAHAHAHA!

Dessert arrives, only right before meat is served (et's consider that an organizational hiccup), and is brought by a scary clown with an evil grin and showing his fangs…oh well. I suppose prisoners too have the right to be entertained sometime…

In spite of the peculiarity of the place, we all had a good time. Wait a second! Something is missing here. What happened to that group of men we hired for a striptease? Did we send them to the wrong cage? Sorry about that girls, but we'll have to start the party again.

************
