Enoshima Fireworks 2013

Di solito simbolo dell'estate giapponese, i fuochi d'artificio catturano comunque grandi e piccoli. Ma a allungare l'estate ci pensa l'amministrazione di Fujisawa, con uno spettacolo fuori stagione a Enoshima. Verso la fine di ottobre, l'isola già destinazione turistica affollata tutto l'anno, si riempie di appassionati proprio in occasione dello spettacolo di fuochi che avviene dall'acqua, che impavidi sfidano vento e freddo pur di non perdersi l'evento.

Le previsioni meteo erano sfavorevoli sin dall'inizio, forse alla fine tutto verra' spostato all'indomani, forse no….ero indecisa sul da farsi, ma poi ho optato per una gita fuori porta. Oh, e se proprio piove a dirotto che non c'e' nulla da fare, mi regalo un pomeriggio alla spa dell'isola per viziarmi un po'.

Il piano della gita fuori città alla fine funziona meglio di quanto si potesse prevedere. 

Ovviamente, nonostante le nuvole a minacciare maltempo, frotte di gente dalla stazione si gettavano sulla stradina che porta verso l'isola. Mai stati a Enoshima? E' una di quelle destinazioni facilmente raggiungibili e con tante cose da vedere, e una breve descrizione la trovate qui.

Tornando a noi, il pomeriggio si prospetta affollato e piovoso, ma fin che regge se ne approfitta. I negozi di souvenir e i venditori di senbei (せんべい, gallette di riso croccanti, insaporite con vari aromi a seconda dell'area) sono sempre gli stessi (anche se non avevo mai visto la galletta enorme 30cmx30cm per cui la gente faceva una fila chilometrica), il numero di scale da salire anche, la vista dall'alto dell'isola anche. Il mio percorso preferito e' quello pieno di ristoranti carini con vista sul mare che porta dal tempio dell'amore attraverso circa 200 gradini al lato sud di Enoshima, quel lato fatto di rocce vulcaniche, quello fatto di strapiombi abitati da aquile, quello ventoso dove si trovano le caverne in cui l'aria resta intrappolata e sibila. Dico sempre che voglio tornare a Enoshima in un giorno di burrasca, quando il mare e' grosso e si infrange sugli scogli…

Il classico dispiegamento di forze per contrastare e regolare la marea di persone e' già in posizione, megafoni, bastoni luminosi, fari, furgone con la musica (ah si, i fuochi erano a ritmo di musica), birre, macchine fotografiche. I fuochi sono proprio belli, vengono sparati da una larga piattaforma sul mare, così da creare un effetto a tutto cielo. Nonostante il freddo siamo li sull'erba coi nostri oooooh e aaaaah a ogni esplosione di colori. Alla faccia delle previsioni che portavano pioggia, come baciati dalla fortuna assistiamo allo spettacolo in santa pace, niente ritardi e niente rinvii. Solo vento, e qualche goccia sporadica ma nulla più. Ora, finito lo spettacolo, normalmente, si fanno due cose: andarsene oppure intrattenersi. In entrambi i casi, o si hanno i treni affollati o i ristoranti pieni. Meglio allora fare una visita alla spa e restarci per qualche ora, fino a che le cose tornano alla normalità. 

Mai scelta e' stata migliore: la spa dispone di un'ampia zona bagno separata per sessi, dove ci si può rilassare provando differenti vasche con acqua termale e a differenti temperature, oppure visitare la sauna. Ci sono poi altre aree miste in cui e' possibile stare tutti assieme, piscine all'aperto, piscine al chiuso, piscine scavate nella roccia sottostante con vista sul mare. Quella sensazione di caldo e allo stesso tempo di libertà che viene dallo starsene a mollo sotto le stelle non ha prezzo. 

E per una volta, perfezione e felicita' si eguagliano.

Fireworks are usually a summer thing here, although both children and grown-ups like them. Fujisawa city makes sure that summer lasts a bit longer with its out of season Enoshima Fireworks event. Around the end of October the island, already a heavily toured spot year round, is filled with boom lovers who want to enjoy the show daring wind and cold. Weather forecasts were unfavorable since the very beginning, maybe they move the event, maybe they cancel, maybe not…I was quite undecided whether to go, then I decided I had to go out somewhere. Well, if it would have rained badly, there is one thing I could still do, that is go to the island spa and spoil myself a bit.

Eventually, the plan to get out of town worked much much better than expected.

Obviously grey clouds bringing rain are not enough to scare people away, for armies of people walked the tiny shopping street that goes to the island. Ever been at Enoshima? It is one of those easily accessible destinations with lots of things to see, and for the curious I have a short description here.

Back to us, the afternoon is promisingly rainy and crowded, but better get going till the good conditions last. Souvenir shops and food stands selling senbei (せんべい, grilled rice crackers with different flavors) are the same (well, although I had never seen that 30cmx30cm rice chip people were patiently queuing for), so are the stairs to climb, so is the view from the top. My favorite walk is the one filled with tiny restaurants and shops that form the lovers shrine leads through some 200 stair steps to the South side of Enoshima, that side made of volcanic rocks, precipices inhabited by eagles, windy caves where air is blown into and whistles. I always say I want to go to Enoshima on a storm day, when the sea is rough and waves crash on the rocks…

The notorious arrangements in order to fight and organize the waves of people are already made and everyone's on duty, megaphones, lights and directions, truck with music (yes, the fireworks followed some music), beer, cameras. The show reveals itself to be wonderful, fireworks are shot from a large platform on the sea and create a whole-sky effect. Fighting the cold, we all sat on the grass with our oohs and aaaahs, at every boom. In the face of the weather forecasts, we are blessed with just a handful of drops every now and later and we could enjoy the whole thing without delays nor rescheduling. 

Normally, event over, one can do two things: leave or stay. In the former case, trains are packed. In the latter restaurants are. Then, better visit the local spa and spend a few hours until things outside go back to normal. Never such a choice was best: the spa features a huge thermal water area with different pools, and a sauna. There are then other mixed pools indoors, outdoors, in a cave with ocean view. That feeling of warmth given by the hot spring water and at the same time watching the night sky with a sense of freedom is priceless.  

And for once, perfection and happiness even up.
