Succede, succede a tutti.

*************

I came across this thought, that most of the people who mean a lot to me, the ones who accompanied me in Tokyo in the past six years, or for a shorter time, they are gone. There is a little group of five or six people I can still count on, right now. Later, who knows!

This fact goes back to the topic of isolation and difficulty in making new friends, and in that case I didn't reckon at all that I haven't made new friends since a couple of years, so now that all the good friends have left this country I have realized I might run the risk of being without companions in my adventures…

This fact reminds me once again of how temporary everything is, everything that happens in our lives has got a start and a end, be the end either real or symbolic, it will come.

Have they really all gone? Something's not right, I know way too many people here in Tokyo, how's that possible? Oh, I have already found the answer, quite simple:  many of them haven't been true close friends, we haven't created a long lasting bond and they are not the first ones I'd run to, they don't belong to the elite friends. Many other friends have been downgraded to the level of acquaintance, such as people one happens to meet, becomes close to but then cuts them out as soon as the real nature of the bond becomes clear after time, and eventually forgets about them. It happens too, it happens to all of us.

I think it must somehow be due to age. I have weighted the idea several other times, time passes and people's needs change, experiences made contribute to change us….it must be true in this case, too. I remember I was initially carried by the enthusiasm a new city and a new life would bring; I remember catching up with many people to go to the park on weekends, or to the beach careless of heat and wind; always, someone had a party planned and everyone would go, the karaoke, the ethnic festivals, birthdays. Now, who says I turned into a hermit is right…

But, other friends as old s me or older tell me the same story, they're in Tokyo since basically forever and they are left with a handful of good friends only. This is a consolation on one hand and a fear on the other hand: we are still in our thirties, professionally fulfilled or on the way to be, often single and independent, but we are already tired, not keen at all to make efforts, even tiny, because we don't want to waste our resources anymore, we don't have the time to invest anymore.
