Isolation break - Pausa isolamento

Troppo tempo a Tokyo forse?

**************

I am told I am isolating myself too much, I am antisocial. Let's explain….

Lately I don't have the energy nor the money to always hang out with many people. I don't even invite friends at my place anymore, while it used to be always lively and busy. I am not even going to salsa, which is the only one thing that gave me life since three years ago!!!! I am not depressed, I am not sad nor nostalgic. I feel fine, actually, that's the great thing. I right now am in that phase when I prefer to spend some quality time with one or a few friends I still have here (or by myself), I am in my isolation mood phase.

I don't go out with people from work anymore. I have been working with the same group of people for about 5 years, and I have done my partying with them but I am now tired. We have more or less changed, our interests diverge, we have nothing to share apart from the office space…surely we get together sometimes, the group spirit is still there and we might end up spending a good time, but the important difference is that we are coworkers not best friends. We work together, but we don't do many things together outside work.

I am also selective, I like few people and that is solely because I know very few people (worldwide) I feel comfortable with...I am full of insecurities, and most of the other people I meet make me feel even more insecure…meeting new people is itself already a difficult task, rather demanding activity, and most of the times it ends up with giving up on them, they are not worth the effort. Being selective means that one chooses carefully when and with whom going out, that priorities change. It also means I don't like someone, right, specifically those type of persons who are careless, full of B.S.,over confident and proving themselves all the time…not the ones I'd love to be with. I don't need leaders, I don't need fearless warriors, I need friends, people whom spending time with is something enjoyable, not dreading.

In addition, all the people I created a bond with are now gone, and I can see that making new friends is somehow more difficult. I think it is so because our needs change over time, and our expectations from people change too…I am selective because I am picky, I am older and I my demands differ form the demands I had some years ago.

I am tired, really tired of catching a train to go any where. Thankfully here public transportation is excellent! But, having become a lazy person, I don't want to go too far, I don't want to go to the station, take a train, wait for the connection, spend something between 10 and 60 minutes commuting…it's a lot of time gone wasted!! I'd rather use that hour to jog along the river or to do something interesting.
Then, the big deterrent is the bad feeling that being close to other people provokes: too many people in Tokyo, everywhere, packing the trains, walking in the stations, crossing people's ways without caring, blocking your way in front of you, bumping into you, falling asleep on you….the lack of personal space combined to the discovery of a claustrophobic nature that worsen every year are perhaps the main causes that refrain me from going out half of the times.

Too long in Tokyo maybe? In the past I used to go somewhere every month, either vacation or just trip some place near, just to pull the plug. I don't have that time now. May it be that I just need a nice break and I shall get it one way or another?
