Lifestyle - Service

If there is something where the Japanese are effective, then this is the service, the readiness, the efforts in trying to satisfy any request and need.

Any time you enter a shop, actually you haven't yet stepped in, there is a girl there to tell you that "come in, just call me if you need me" when in facts she's following you step by step around the shop. Don't worry it is not to pressure you or to hurry you…what do you think! It is just to be there ready in case you need, right?

You are at the supermarket looking for the place for the apple vineyard, and not being able to find it you ask some staff who will explain where to find it and taking you all the way there.

Even on the street, if you happen to ask for directions not only the person will do everything to explain you the way, but often they can escort you for a while, so to be sure they are not sending you the wrong way.

At a restaurant, the door hasn't yet closed behind you that they welcome you, they show you a table and soon after they bring you a hot towel (cold in summer); again, at the restaurant, typically the one where you have to take your shoes off before sitting at the table, they will arrange your shoes so that they are ready to be put on when you leave….in some of such places shoes must be taken off at the entrance and place them on some shelves. Now, what drives me mad here is that the shoes, which I clearly remember being on shelf A7, are now at the entrance waiting for me!!

If this is not impeccable service…
