Rinnovo visto - Visa renewal

**************

These days I need to renew my visa…

The immigration office I have to go to is quite far, although a huge outlet is not far away from there, compensating for the efforts.
The area where the immigration office is located is definitely ugly: a long stretch of factories, sheds, a port industrial area all in all. With the added value of the air smelling bad. Also, just a block away form this amass of buildings there is a bay, accessorized with piers and docks for boats and a hotel of a very controversial look (architecturally speaking), and the above mentioned outlet.

So, at the immigration I show up with my pile of documents, crossing my fingers for not staying there the whole afternoon, and I get immediately the attention of a quick but unhappy woman who can't obviously speak English but we figure out a way to communicate. It appears that I have filled the wrong application form in, not the one about the type of visa I am applying for.

Anyway, after grabbing all my documents, they wave to the waiting area and they call me back to tell me that, indeed, today I can't finish the submission procedure because I brought the wrong form and I have to fill the correct one and submit again.

Fortunately I can do this with the form they will send me and I can then send it back, filled in all its parts….after that my case will be examined by the inspectors and my visa will be re-issued. Duration of the whole thing: about a month….

But, there is a but. Talking about the fact at the office, the suspect that the woman at the counter didn't have clear ideas about my application becomes stronger, and in facts, my colleague calls the immigration office to ask for explanations and I was told that actually there was a mistake and I don't need to worry. Immediate result was to find the postcard in my mail box, within a week, with the invitation to go and pick up the renewed visa…

Japan never stops surprising me.
