Lifestyle : Usanze -- Traditions

****************************

In this new episode of 'Lifestyle: what really is Japanese' I tell a little about the Japanese traditions that can't be missed. Traditions to be regarded and honored.
The meeting: any respectable company, work place must have a certain amount of fixed meetings. Most of them useless. In addition to this, extraordinary meetings are held for any purpose. If they have to decide how to arrange the meetings, a meeting is called. If they have to discuss about assign responsibilities, a meeting is called. If they want to arrange an event, a meeting is called. And so on. In our company, we have many of them, and many don't reach a concrete point. But they must be held and we must attend.
The task force: who has never been part of a task force? For gender equality, for parties, for crisis, for fire evacuations, and others.
The applause: if a new member is introduced to the group, applause. If a presentation (any type) is finished, applause. The meeting ends, applause.
CC emailing: no matter what's said, the important thing is to CC all the potential interested persons. And also the email exchange, for transparency, must include everybody.
The mailing list: there's billions of mailing lists, each of those for a specific use, like a group, a task force, a working group and others. Who writes to a mailing list, they often CC the other mailing lists. Again, for transparency. So it becomes a circulation of emails even the most competitive spammers envy. Therefore, what's the meaning of a mailing list?
Parties with coworkers: officially parties are arranged only for socialization with the colleagues to contribute to create a more relaxed working environment. The truth is, it's an excuse to drink.
Traditional and seasonal festivals: they should aim to the transfer of traditions, so that the young generations don't forget them. And yet, they end up drinking and get drunk.
Cakes: any event has a cake associated with it, to be eaten only in that period. Valentine's, Christmas, birthdays, change of season, halloween, weddings......
Decorations: every month seems to have a characteristic decoration: snow in January, hearts in February, chocolate in March, cherry blossom in April, sand and toys in July, pumpkins in October, red leaves in November, christmas decorations in December.
