December with temper

*******************************

This year, first time since I moved to Japan, I won't reunite with my folks to celebrate Christmas holidays in a familiar environment, happy and welcoming.

Divided between Sicily and Australia in the past years, for the sake of balance I should spend one Christmas in Japan, too, so to know how it feels like. But it will be a Christmas 'with family', anyways. You'll know more after the holiday break.

Going back now to Japan and its personal way to celebrate such a festive event. Japan is well prepared, I'd say. The atmosphere, though, is missing. I mean, streets and shops are decorated and lighted up, people exceed in shopping, get ready to leave. And perhaps, right because of the lack of the factor 'departure', I don't feel Christmas this time: I won't leave, I won't go on vacation, so nothing special is happening. We have already celebrated at work, half of the people are greeting their friends already, or are traveling or are about to travel. Here we don't stop working for Christmas, unfortunately we can't have the privilege of being allowed to observe two different calendars, and basically one doesn't realize the most important event of the whole year is approaching.

Mountains are white suddenly, Christmas melodies echoes are everywhere, the shopping frenzy becomes crazier the closer Christmas is, temperatures fall down, seasonal vacationers are finishing up the pre-leave settings, sounds and musics mix and fuse, the silhouettes of people fade, the world slows motions....I am in a transparent bubble where I can sense, but I am -fortunately- isolated by, what happens outside.

ENUF!Stop the world, I want to get off and breathe!

Never but now I feel the need of a break, and I only ask to wake up in the morning whenever I like and stay home. HOME. Take possession again of my spaces and my time. And, thankfully, I am close to the goal: from Christmas day till January 2nd, using 4 days of official year-end holidays, it will be just R-E-L-A-X!!

And I take the chance here to wish everybody happy holidays.
