Yokohama port opening 150

Yokohama quest'anno festeggia il 150esimo anniversario dell'apertura del porto e lo fa in grande stile. Dal 29 aprile al 29 settembre 2009 è possibile visitare i molti siti dedicati alle celebrazioni e assistere agli eventi vari. La giornata non è di quelle appiccicose tipiche dell'estate giapponese, di conseguenza mi convinco che è meglio approfittare e vado a dare un'occhiata. Il mio pomeriggio inizia con una passeggiata al molo di Osanbashi, da dove partono le navi da crociera. Da li ho una bellissima vista della baia di Yokohama, e addirittura vedo dall'altro lato Yamashita park, uno dei confini di Chinatown. Osanbashi è stato ideato per il relax e difatti si può passeggiare lungo il molo da dentro, di lato e da sopra. Sul "tetto" ci sono addirittura sedie e prati.

Comunque, mi dirigo verso Aka Renga, la casa dai mattoni rossi, e vedendo che li hanno installato solo negozi e stand per il cibo (Azz, non fanno altro che pensare alla panza questi giappi!!) mi dirigo direttamente alla Hajimarinomori - Foresta dell'inizio- per incontrare un aracnide speciale. L'attrazione qui non è la più spettacolare, infatti in un altro sito hanno realizzato con l'aiuto di un astronauta giapponese un pallone di 12 metri di diametro, sospeso a mezz'aria, che la sera si illumina e diventa una perfetta riproduzione della terra come vista dallo spazio. Per vedere quello però avrei dovuto pagare un altro costoso biglietto di ingresso, ma soprattutto avrei dovuto aspettare che si facesse sera....

Comunque, entro in questa foresta dell'inizio, nient'altro che una sapiente installazione di strutture a raggio e semicerchio, anch'esse dotate della capacità di illuminarsi alla sera creando una sorta di ambiente di sottobosco. L'attrazione maggiore qui dentro è senza dubbio un enorme ragno meccanico. Lo spettacolo prevede l'arrivo di 5 "piloti", uno sulla testa a gli altri che pilotano una coppia di zampe del mostro a testa, e poi accompagnati da una musica di sottofondo agiscono in sincronismo per far muovere la bestiola. Lo spettacolo è affascinante, anche perchè il ragno è veramente enorme e quando si avvicina fa paura. Una cosa che ci hanno raccomandato prima dell'inizio dello spettacolo è stata di fare attenzione alle nostre macchine fotografiche o cellulari, visto che il ragno ti tanto in tanto spruzza acqua, ma -ci rassicurano dallo staff- lo spruzzo è diretto ben sopra le nostre teste e quindi non dovremmo preoccuparci più di tanto. Sti grandissimi....li possino...*^@-''%&£=#!!!! Ad un certo punto meccano-ragno (beh, i tipi che lo pilotavano e che hanno diretto il getto d'acqua per essere più precisi) non inizia a innaffiarci ben benino???

E mi ritrovo completamente bagnata dalla testa ai piedi...e non sono stata la sola.In ogni caso è stato uno sballo.

Consiglio: andateci in una giornata di agosto, quando il sole è a picco e le temperature rasentano l'inferno e vedrete che la doccia a sorpresa vi risulterà cosa gradita!

Yokohama this year celebrates the 150th anniversary of the port opening and does it with style. from April 29 to September 29 2009 people can visit the many sites dedicated to the celebration and attend various events.

The day is not a typically sticky Japanese summer day, therefore I reckon I should go and see. My afternoon starts with a walk to Osanbashi pier, where the cruise boats depart from. I have a great view on Yokohama bay form there, and I can even see Yamashita park on the other side, one of the boundaries of Chinatown. Osanbashi was designed for relax and indeed one can walk inside, outside and on top of the pier. On the "roof" are even chairs and lawns.

Anyways, I head towards Aka Renga, the red brick warehouse, and confirming that they have put only shops and food stands there (geee, the Japs seem to do nothing but think about their stomachs!!) I go directly to Hajimarinomori - Forest of the beginning - to meet a special arachnid. The attraction here is not the most spectacular one, though, in facts in another site they built, with the help of a Japanese astronaut, a 12meter diameter balloon, suspended in mid air, which in the night lights up and becomes a reproduction of the planet as seen from the space. To see that I had to pay for another pricy ticket, but, most important thing, I had to wait till evening...

So, I enter this forest of the beginning, which is a wise installation of radial or semi-radial structures with the capability of turn on the lights in such a way that one has the feeling to be in a forest. Here the main attraction is with no doubt a big mechanic spider. The show needs a team of 5 "pilots", one on top and the other piloting two legs of the monster each, and then with a music in the background act in perfect synchronism to move the beast. The show is fascinating, also because the spider is really huge and when it comes close it scares quite a lot. One thing the staff recommended us was to take care of our electronic goods, because the spider spits water every now and later, but -the staff ensures us- the spray is oriented above our heads so we shouldn't be too worried. Well, no. The pilots of the spider -obviously- directed the spray right onto us...

I was completely wet from head to toes...but I wasn't the only one. In any case, it DID rock!!
Suggestion: go there on an August day, when the sun hits and temperatures are nearly hell and you'll be glad of the sudden shower!
