T-shirt Mania

The Japanese turn very crazy about t-shirts with weird writings. Going around the clothing shops to hunt the wrongest t-shirt is a sport with no equals for me, and I often find very impossible stuff. Unfortunately I can't take photos of the items, indeed they would complain immediately, already tested! But I'd do if I could. In the most cases the theme is Hawaii, with some advertisement pushing to go to the beach, or to have fun surfin or so.

Usually the writings are just dumped there, with no connections between one sentence and another, to make the shirt very very wrong. For the girls shirts, then, writings on love, cuteness, sweetness, beauty are over-abused, enriched with glittery, shiny inks and bright prints to catch the attention.

Obviously some of those t-shirts must be bought, and so I did, even though my choose fell on the less weird ones, there's a part of me who would be ashamed to wear the wrongest ones. Ah, and one thing is worth to say: usually I buy my t-shirts in the kids shops (because they stay tight on my hips, rather than the woman's shirts that are very large), and findings such writings on the teenagers' shirts is a bit worrying...or at least I won't buy them for my daughter. But here we're in Japan, where the concept of fashion and trendy is far different than anywhere else.

This morning me and Morana decided that the time to buy some of such t-shirts has come,so we went to a shop nearby to start with the survey and we got quite lucky.

Reason, season or lifetime

A volte muoiono, A volte vanno via. A volte agiscono e ti forzano a prendere posizioni.

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.

Relationships teach you LIFETIME lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Problem Solved

I have found the solution to all my office stress troubles. The healing seems to be effective, seems to give optimal results, but oddly it's not a Japanese remedy. Indeed it's American and it's pioneering. It's COMPUTER VOODOO. Here what it does:

You've tried logic, common sense, even tech support.
Now it's time to relate to your computer on its own terms: magic and voodoo.
Use the white pins to avoid problems on your computer, or use the black pins to wreack havoc on someone else's.
Works on any platform or operating system.

Lifestyle: Japanese food

Buon appetito.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@

In all this talking about Japan, I missed one thing. One day, Giordana asked me a recipe for a Japanese dish, and yet I realize that, nonetheless very millions exist on the web, I don't have my own recension on Japanese food. So I have to fix it.

This new episode of LIFESTYLE:what's really Japanese indeed is focused on Japanese food.

I start talking about sashimi, very fresh laves of raw fish on a platter with vegetables, dressed with only soy sauce and wasabi. My cuz Anthony will love them. Then, cousin of the sashimi, is the sushi where the fish is put on top a ball of rice or rolled into dry nori seaweed and rice. The procedure of preparing the pieces of sushi is by hand rigorously.

Another bounty is the tempura, tasty fish and vegetables deep fried and served with sweet-sour sauce.
Le't enter now the YAKI (roasted, grilled) section: yakitori -grilled chicken on sticks-, yakisoba, sooo good, then takoyaki -roasted balls with octopus and shrimps that seem easy to make, but in practice....-, okonomiyaki -a sort of omelette with a lot of stuff inside, like meat, seafood, vegetables. after it's done it is brushed with some sauce , covered with parsley and mayonese and powdered with katsuobushi, that is dry fish leaves.

In the soup area we find shiabu-shiabu and nabe, meat or fish, respectively, soups with variants spicy, korean style, and so on. Then soba and udon, the Japanese spaghetti that can be distinguished by the thickness : large the udon, thin the soba. And finally the ramen, a chinese soup with pork meat, onion and veggies.

Among the rices we have careeraisu, rice with curry, not very Japanese but adopted, and katsukaree, that is cutlet and rice with curry, and gyudon, that is a bowl of white rice with meat and onion on top, and finally the omuraisu, the rice omelette.

Weird stuff: sweet red bean paste, it's everywhere especially in sweets; pastries with rice flour, disgustingly sweet and tastelessly tasteless; then mochi, gummy semi-transparent paste rice-based used for sweets; then every possible type of fish is found also dry or soaked into a miso paste, like we do in Sicily with the anchovies when we keep them under salt.

Well, that's all I've experienced, but there's a lot of weird and tasty stuff out there. Buon appetito.

Convenient mobile phone

Eccezionale!

Super facile, super veloce, super conveniente, super.

*********************************

Exceptional! What I am going to tell is very exceptional! Some days ago I have a chat with Serena, my Italian friend, who tells me a story about buying a mobile phone. For the ones who are not familiar with the Japanese mobile phones' usage, I add the following explanations.

The bigger mobile phone companies use generally, with a few options for some special phones, a system that allows you to get immediately a phone at no cost and then you pay it diluted in one or two years depending on which contract you sign in, while charging your credit for the phone calls. In addition you can find also pre-paid, rechargeable mobile phone cards and they are a very good alternative for the ones who cannot apply and register for a proper contract because are non resident in Japan. And phones with rechargeable cards are very cheap. You can, then, buy a phone in the shop, then buy a card and recharge it.

Now, the exceptional story. Serena buys one of those phones with pre-paid card, read carefully, at the convenience store ('conbiniensu stoa' in Japanese, or 'conbini')!!!For the very small amount of 30 bucks she buys a mobile phone with all the option one can ask, as if she was buying some milk. in Italy such a phone would cost 5 or 6 fold more..

In summary: you go to the convenience store, buy a nice mobile, go to the phone company's shop, activate your card, recharge it, et voilà. super easy, super fast, super convenient, super.

Evoluzione, impressioni e prospettiva

Certe esperienze fanno cambiare. Certe esperienze fanno maturare una nuova consapevolezza. Certe esperienze fanno crescere.

=========================

Certain experiences change us. Certain experiences make us mature a new consciousness. Every new experience, even the more destructive, is in facts constructive. We'll see it later in time, we'll appreciate it and be thankful for it.

The experience of living here in Japan has got a totally different meaning than what it means in the other parts of the world. Here you live without thinking much about your tomorrow, you live with the idea that everything has got a duration and a end, you live with the consciousness that sooner or later all's gone, you build upon the concept of temporary, non-eternal, and because of this you better live your life today rather than repent tomorrow and die.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean with this call for life that I want to live a crazy life, out of the ordinary...I actually mean that I would like to live at best, searching for happiness and interior wellness. the natural phenomena mark stronger the insistence of the carpe diem, and indeed when you live in in one of the most seismic places in the world, when you live in light, elastic houses, at each movement of the ground you realize it can be the last thing you can feel.

Beside this consciousness, inbred in the Japanese and acquired in the non Japanese, there's an obscure world where you can see clearly and brightly the mortality of the whole. Well, in this country the suicide rate among teenagers is one of the highest, and this opens a wide discussion board; in addition there's people madness, maybe because they are too stressed and explode at one point, or maybe the illness has always been there or has not been detected properly and promptly. Whatever it is, when the fools play with the sane's lives, having fun in pushing people under the trains or hitting pedestrians with their cars or stubbing people......with such a perspective of short life I say I better enjoy a lot.

Then, the japanese don't think about saving money for their offsprings' future or their own oldness, rather they spend a lot. Also the frenzy that distinguishes the Japanese, their rushing..aren't maybe tied to the will of not thinking much? Everywhere are distractions, pachinko, love hotels, department stores...I reconsider my own vision, now.

I find myself here, realizing that I am changed, I am a different person than I was before, maybe stronger, sometimes weaker, sensitive anyway, older on one hand, too young on the other hand, but basically different.
