Lifestyle : Izakaya

New episode of a series dedicated to what is REALLY Japanese.

what's an IZAKAYA? Translated as pub, the izakaya is the place where the Japanese go and get pissed drunk and eat sashimi, the place where one goes to spend a couple of hours far from worries and everyday life, the place to socialize.
Characteristic of this oasis in the cement is, at first, the menu very Japanese, then the affordable prices, the good ber and the atmosphere. Usually, when one enters such places, one's obliged to take off one's shoes at the entrance and leave them into proper "lockers" indexed in a way that the client - or the waiter- knows exactly where to look for the right pair of shoes with no error. Indexing codes vary: lexicographical order of the KANA or KANJI, numbers, and other stuff.
The food, is very good, ALWAYS sashimi and sushi, high quality most of the times, gioza, and so on...

The izakaya day is usually on Friday, when the working week ends up to have fun with the colleagues and, why not, get drunk with beer or nihonshu..
As soon as you take a seat, after being welcomed by a warm and loud IRASSHAIMASE, some prompt waiter brings plates and chopsticks, the hot towels, and ask you what you want to drink...often it's NAMA BIIRU, or draft beer! Then the food arrives and the wonderful ritual of dividing and the wooden chopsticks begins.

One can spend several hours into an izakaya, chattering, laughing, drinking more....maybe you also make friends with the other people sitting at the table next to yours, starting eating again after a while, 'cause the chattering makes you hungry, and at the end dividing the payment equally.
