Fantom 4.5 meeting

Fantom Meeting, 17-20 July Riken, Japan.

Quick introduction for those who aren't familiar with the scientific conferences: the fantom meeting is an event that in a week sees all together professors, institute directors, and researchers coming from all over the world sharing opinions, points of view, exchanging infos and materialising intuitions. Fantom stands for something like Functional ANnotation Of The Mouse, now at its forth edition, and provides, edition by edition, new discoveries on the genome, human and non human, and contributes to enrich the biological data banks with juicy new information.

The attenders at this edition were, additionally to the Japanese hosts, representatives of the institutes and universities of South Africa, USA, Australia, Norway, Sweden, Italy (surprising!), England, even though the researchers come REALLY from every corner in the globe!

Never seen such an abundant availability of grey matter, never attended at discussions where you can understand only if you know the Sumerian written and spoken, but also I've never enjoyed so much in seeing these brains degenerating gradually, when drink by drink they see their mental sanity leaving their bodies and they reduce their synaptic activity to zero......

The most surprising among all is YH, our boss, the fantom meeting organizer and the one who contributed to the scientific history of the post-nuclear Japan. A small man as only he Japanese can be, but capable in moving cubic meters of air every step; he is brave, proud of himself and conscious of his capacity, his omnipotence and his charisma are sensed from a long distance. He is so busy in "doing science" he has no time for anything else but science, and his behaviour as a powerful businessman is so spontaneous he can command everybody and can give instructions with a simple move of a hand....all of this puts me in an ecstatic condition!!!

Maybe for the Japanese this fact is pretty unnoticed, as considered the normality if related to their behavioural codes, but when I listen to him, saying: "this thing is to be done, so please, do it!" I can't not to notice the imposition that lies behind this request....
